Etiolation

Etiolation is the reaction of a plant to light reduction or deprivation, with the stems becoming longer and weaker. There is a loss of green colour (chlorosis) through the disappearance and/or non-synthesis of chlorophyll, de-differentiation and/or non-differentiation of chloroplasts, exaggerated stem length growth (tapering) and reduced leaf growth and development.
